How Much To Repair Fork Seals

Price to fix leaking fork/fork seal?

What would be a decent price at a mechanic to have a fork/fork seal fixed if its leaking? 2009 ninja 650

Edit: Update, I cutting a like tool out of a milk jug like /u/Hedonistic- did, and used it like the video. Then exam road it for xxx minutes through some crappy roads, I tin't really meet whatsoever fluid, simply it is nighttime out then time will tell. Thanks

This is not beyond the skills of an apprentice mechanic. If y'all're mechanically minded, have simple tools (might req. a strange tool or two dep. on the bike) and reasonably intelligent you could practice it and save a lot of money. Information technology'southward but going to take you a lot longer. I've done this many times and if I can do information technology, simply about anyone tin can.

Shop I use is a flat rate of $150 for fork seals. Plus parts. They will only install OEM seals. So the parts are bit expensive.

This is a damn skillful price effectually me since the branded dealers charge $300 plus parts.

Depends on the mechanic...

For simple seal replacement (both tubes), i'd charge an hour plus parts. But you'd be foolish to not rebuild the forks while they were off the bike - this will add another hr or two, plus more parts.

How bad is the leak? I fixed mine past cutting a small tool out of a plastic milk jug that was able to pull some minor debris up and out allowing the seal to set tight once again. A few g miles afterwards, still no leaks.

i'd say the leak is almost like this, this is a good idea, but im scared, i dont want to do more harm than good. practice you have a vid, or moving picture of what you did?

I'thousand actually dealing with one myself. Quoted $100 per leg for labor. Tack on $twenty for for the seals and $twenty for the oil and that'southward almost $250. Another $100 if they have to detach. I asked them to throw in the new springs I ordered and they said $400 out the door to detach, replace both seals, install new springs (provided by me), new oil, and reassembly. A chip pricey, but my bike requires a special tool for disassembly. I bought the seals, oil, and springs now and I'm debating doing the work myself if I tin find the tool for information technology.

Dude, thats way over priced. Replacing the fork seals it relatively like shooting fish in a barrel if you lot know what your doing. The hardest part is simply removing the outer tube from the intertube. There is a small shaft inside that hold them together and when y'all loosen the bolt the shaft inside spins freely with it. I've rigged a bunch of socket arm extensions to get my job washed. But if you never done it before its better if yous can find a friend who knows how to show you first.

That seems virtually normal in my experience. As I sad above, the branded dealers where I am it is $350 just for seals. I don't know the labour accuse where you are getting quotes but it looks like they are charging about 3.v hours. Most places I've talked to charge around $100 an hour. I would look for an contained shop and ask them or asking if they practice a flat charge per unit. My seals for my ninja were about $twenty and the oil was something similar $15 bucks I think. I didn't need the oil though as the store I employ includes that in the toll of the change.

a mechanic will charge around 300 all in. to exercise it yourself, depending on what tools yous have it will cost about 20 for the seals and xv for the oil and probably an afternoon your first time through.
